Your weekly update on CJ struggles

Here it is: Your weekly update on Chris Johnson and the Tennessee Titans struggling running game.

Chris Johnson

Johnson continued to try to provide reasons why he has only 302 yards rushing through seven games as he and teammate continue to hope that soon the turnaround will come.

“It's another opportunity. It's basically a situation where it can get no worse, really,” Johnson said. “It's always good to get back on the field and practice after a bad game.

“You've got to stay confident, because you've got more games to play, and it could easily turn around on one play. ...You continue to work, work hard, and hopefully it will get better.”

Thus far, it has not, but Johnson and the Titans keep waiting.

Johnson said the criticism he has endured from fans because of his slow start does not bother him, saying that many of them probably only followed him through his fantasy football exploits anyway.

“It don't bother me, because if they're a true fan, they're with you through the ups and downs. Through my first three years I've been doing good, and they're my fans, and when I have a couple of bad games, then they're automatically not my fans. They're booing me and this and that; they're probably just fans through fantasy football and stuff like that.”

However, Johnson does admit that he is frustrated, not because he shared carries with Javon Ringer on Sunday against Indianapolis, but because of the run game's struggles overall.

“I've been frustrated, not because Javon has been playing more, but because the running game hasn't gotten going,” Johnson said.
It's been seven games and it's not gotten going the way we want it to. We have to keep working. It has to get better, because I don't see it getting any worse."

The situation is that CJ is still the starter, as Coach Mike Munchak said on Monday, but the opportunity is there for Ringer to earn himself a role in the offense as well.

“I think they're two talented players, and we'll try to give each guy an opportunity to show their skills and adjust accordingly as the game goes along,” Palmer said.
