Titans give CJ 'three-day weekend'

Chris Johnson was given a day off by Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher due to what the coach termed as soreness after Thursday's practice.

Johnson found it to be more like a "three-day weekend" from practicing.

“He was just a little sore, so we rested him,” Fisher said. "Last year, he took one practice off with the sore ankle, but we just felt like this was a good opportunity with the extra day and the long week."

Johnson never mentioned any soreness, but in his talk Thursday with reporters, he said he appreciated the day off from the practice field. Johnson's ailment was listed on the Titans official injury report as a thigh.

“Coach Fisher told me to sit out today and just go in the weight room and things like that. It was all the head coach's decision,” Johnson said. “It's always good. It can hurt you, but it's always good to have a break. Just playing Sunday after Sunday, sometimes you come in not feeling up to par. So anytime coach gives you a day off, that's always a good thing.”

Not having to practice Thursday after the Titans had an extra off day from practice on Wednesday gave Johnson three consecutive days without contact.

“It's like a three-day weekend, but I'm still running and doing things,” Johnson said. “It's not like I'm just out there watching practice. I was actually in the training room running on the treadmill and keeping my wind up and things like that.”
