The NFL fined Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan and Texans receiver Andre Johnson $25,000 each for their role in Sunday's fight that resulted in an ejection for both players.
Neither player will be suspended for their role in the fight.
TitanInsider reported earlier in the day that Finnegan was likely to avoid a suspension. Johnson had landed three punches in the melee in Sunday's 20-0 Texans victory over the Titans.
Coach Jeff Fisher had lobbied the NFL on Finnegan's behalf and remained adamant in his afternoon press conference that the cornerback did not deserve to be suspended.
“I have very strong opinions about the fact that he should not be suspended. As far as what the league decides to do, that's a league issue,” Fisher said just over an hour before the fine was announced.
The fact that Johnson landed three punches and drew the same fine as Finnegan, however, is interesting.
“I think in this situation, if you look at the two players, and you look at the incident, one player did a lot more than the other player did,” Fisher said.
