Maybe it's just a connect-the-dots scenario, but the exact type of defensive end that Jerry Gray is looking for might have just become available, courtesy of one of Gray's old teams, the Washington Redskins.
The Redskins dumped defensive end Andre Carter, 31, just days before the league year is about to end, as part of their annual roster purge.
Carter was unsuccessful in making the transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 with the Redskins and was expendable.
But his 6-4, 257-pound frame might make him a fit in Tennessee as the Titans hope to get bigger along the defensive line. He is also said to have been a steady influence in the development of Brian Orakpo. Might he be a good mentor for Derrick Morgan?
Two of Carter's best years came while Gray was with the Redskins working as secondary coach for the Redskins. Carter had 10.5 sacks in 2007 and 11 sacks in 2009.
