Albert Haynesworth's younger brother was killed Thursday night in a motorcycle accident, Haynesworth's agent Chad Speck confirmed.
A man identified as Lance McCoy, 23, was traveling at a high rate of speed on N. Gallatin Pike in Madison and weaving into and out of traffic before crashing into a Nissan Altima.
Haynesworth spent seven seasons with the Tennessee Titans before signing with the Washington Redskins after the 2008 season.
According to a statement from Metro Nashville Police, witnesses reported that McCoy was riding his Suzuki motorcycle at a very high rate of speed when he collided the Altima that had pulled out of the CarMax parking lot and was heading south.
McCoy attempted to change lanes, but was unsuccessful. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died. Excessive speed was cited as a primary contributing factor in the wreck, according to Metro's preliminary investigation.
Benjamin Smith, 27, the driver of the Altima, told police he did not see the motorcyle until the crash. Smith did not suffer any signifcant injuries.
Haynesworth was the Titans' first-round pick in 2002 and spent seven seasons with the team. At one time, McCoy lived with Haynesworth and his then-wife Stephanie.
