Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker will have his injured left shoulder examined on Monday, and if he gets clearance, could resume throwing on Tuesday with an eye toward starting against the Buffalo Bills.\
A lot has to go right for Locker to be ready to go when the Titans return from a weekend off following Thursday night's 26-23 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. But Coach Mike Munchak said thus far Locker's healing process has been on track.
“It's falling like we talked. We'll see on Monday and Tuesday. He'll get rechecked by the doctors to see where he is at,” Munchak said. “If he gets the OK, he'll start throwing, pretty much what he did when he was getting ready for the San Diego game, when he was throwing on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then we'll go from there.
“If there are no setbacks, then he could continue on. He is progressing the way we hoped. Now it's just a matter of seeing how he does Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and then we'll decide.”
Locker originally dislocated his left non-throwing shoulder in the season opener against New England and re-injured it three weeks later against Houston when he was sacked.
Since that time, Matt Hasselbeck has started for the Titans and led the Titans to their second win of the year Thursday night against the Steelers. The job belongs to Locker when he is ready, but Munchak is comfortable with Hasselbeck as well.
“To me Matt is a very good quarterback, and we know we can win football games with Matt. Not too many teams can say this, but we feel we have two quarterbacks we can win with and make a playoff run with,” Munchak said. “If Jake is back and he's healthy this week and ready to play, he'll play. Or if it's next week or whenever it is, we would still have him in there.”
Defensive tackle Jurrell Casey should be OK after leaving Thursday night's game against the Steelers with a shoulder injury. Munchak said he expects him to play when the Titans face Buffalo on Oct. 21.
The news might not be as good on cornerback Tommie Campbell, who suffered an ankle injury and was on crutches following the game.
