Jerry Gray has agreed to become the Tennessee Titans new defensive coordinator, league sources tell TitanInsider.
Gray flew in from Austin, Texas, on Friday afternoon to interview with new Titans head coach Mike Munchak about the position.
Gray was torn between his current position, being defensive backs coach at his alma mater, the University of Texas, and jumping back to the NFL. By leaving the Longhorns, Gray would be exiting there without having coached a game for them.
Gray had called returning to Texas a “dream job” when he was hired in January, but has spent his entire coaching career in the NFL, including four years with the Titans where he was defensive backs coach before departing with Gregg Williams to become defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills.
Gray spent the 2010 season coaching defensive backs for Seattle Seahawks.
