Tennessee Titans linebacker Colin McCarthy sat out Thursday's practice after a full go on Wednesday.
Titans coach Mike Munchak said he knew that McCarthy would be sore from his first practice since the season opener, but the team is still hopeful the linebacker will practice Friday and play Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
“We knew yesterday he was going to do a lot. Today, we’re going to cut back on him. He’s a little sore, but not to where (he had a setback),” Munchak said. “We’re hoping to do that tomorrow, pick up where we left off on Wednesday.
“We’re still feeling good that he has a good chance to play on Sunday. Yesterday was a good day for him, got a lot of work done. We said we’d kind of take it easy with him, so we did. We’ll have to see how he is tomorrow, and hopefully he’ll be out here tomorrow. We’ll know more then.”
McCarthy originally hurt his ankle in the season opener, and during preseason was the Titans top playmaker on the defense.
If McCarthy can go, perhaps he can help boost a sagging defense that has allowed a league-high 151 points in four games.
Will Witherspoon and Zac Diles have filled in in the middle for McCarthy in his absence with rookie Zach Brown taking over on the weakside as Witherspoon shifted over.
Meanwhile, the Titans still have not gotten Kenny Britt back into practice with his ankle injury suffered against the Detroit Lions two weeks ago.
Britt did a little bit of running again Thursday, but unless he can practice on Friday, he could miss his second straight game.
“Obviously, we’d like him to be doing more. He’s not there yet. He did a little bit more today, but not as much as we would have hoped,” Munchak said. “He wasn’t as sore today from what he did yesterday, but we need to get him to do more. Tomorrow will be a big day to really see where he is at. We thought it would be Friday before we knew one way or the other about him. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow.”
As for other injuries, defensive end Scott Solomon sat out with a hamstring injury and linebacker Patrick Bailey did not practice due to a cast on his broken hand.
Guard Steve Hutchinson was given his customary day off, but guard Leroy Harris returned to practice after getting Wednesday off.
