Quarterback Ryan Mallett, who made pre-draft headlines over a missed meeting with the Carolina Panthers, apparently was late to his scheduled April 18 meeting with the Tennessee Titans, according to what multiple sources have told TitanInsider.
Mallett, who said he missed the meeting with the Panthers on April 9 after what he said was an illness, was late to his meeting with the Titans, though the actual amount of time is not certain. One source said Mallett was about 30 to 40 minutes late, while another indicated Mallett was more than an hour late on his arrival at Baptist Sports Park.
The draft slide of Mallett finally ended late Friday evening when the New England Patriots grabbed the former Arkansas quarterback with the 74th overall pick, selecting him in the middle of the third round.
Mallett, who has had questions regarding his character follow him throughout the draft process, apparently told the Titans that he was sick but also said he did not receive his wake-up call from the hotel, according to a source.
Mallett was one of eight quarterbacks the Titans hosted on pre-draft visits as they considered their quarterback of the future. Tennessee chose quarterback Jake Locker of the University of Washington, in the first round, on Thursday night.
Mallett's slide down the draft board made him the seventh quarterback taken in this year's draft.
