Multiple reports indicate that Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray interviewed for the head coaching vacancy at Texas Tech.
Gray, according to WTVF Channel 5, met with Texas Tech athletics director Kirby Hocutt on Monday in Nashville. WZTV Channel 17 in Nashville reported previously that the Texas Tech plane was at the Nashville International Airport.
Gray’s defense is ranked 27th in the NFL this season, but has played better in recent weeks.
Gray is a native of Lubbock and has a charitable foundation in the city.
Texas A&M offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury and Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris have also drawn interest from Texas Tech in the job.
A report from 1340-AM The Fan in Lubbock saying it spoke to Gray said the Titans defensive coordinator vehemently denied contacting Texas Tech about the vacancy. The report, however, did not say that Texas Tech had not made contact with Gray.
The Red Raiders are searching for a new head coach after Tommy Tuberville unexpectedly left last week for a similar position at the University of Cincinnati.
