Blount Shines Against the Champs

While he hasn’t had the chance to run behind the ones, 15 carries for 59 yards sure does heat up the running back race for a spot on the 53 man roster. That’s what happened to LeGarrette Blount on Thursday night in the final tune-up (against the Saints), before the regular season.

“They put me to work tonight, I’m going home to play with LeGarrette Jr. for about 10 minutes and then I’m going to sleep.” Blount said.

Every guy that sits in this position (on the bubble), now must wait.

“I’m a rookie, this is the first time I’ve ever experienced anything like this. I’m not worried but it is going to weigh on my mind a little bit,” said Blount.

Blount finished the preseason carrying the ball 31 times for 118 yards and two scores. His direct competitor Samkon Gado’s final tallies, were 22 touches for 82 yards and two touchdowns. When asked about Gado he said, “I like the way Sam runs, he runs powerful and low and is a pretty quick guy.”

This preseason has featured many Titans players hurdling over defenders. Lavelle Hawkins leaped in the Arizona game and Jared Cook tested his vertical tonight against New Orleans. Not to be left out was Blount, who had something to say about this latest trend.

“They got that from me, it all goes back to the 2008 Holiday Bowl when we (Oregon) played Oklahoma State. I showcased it. And ever since, they watch me on YouTube and say, I can do that. I want to show everyone the athleticism for a 250 pound running back,” Blount added.

There is one thing for sure after tonight. There are two backs currently on this roster that hope they don’t get that dreaded phone call from now until Saturday.
