New Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt continues to fill the vacancies on his staff, ading Mike Mularkey as tight ends coach, while signing John McNulty as quarterbacks coach and Kevin Patullo as assistant wide receivers coach.
Mularkey, a former head coach with the Buffalo Bills and the Jacksonville Jaguars, was out of football a season ago after being fired by the Jags following the 2012 season.
“Mike brings a wealth of experience, both as a coordinator and a head coach,” said Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt. “Selfishly, for me, he brings a lot to the table, having been in this situation before. There are things that I will use him for moving forward that will help us a team. He has had a lot of success in this league and we are lucky to have him.”
McNulty, who worked as quarterbacks coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013, has 23 years of coaching experience with 11 of that coming in the NFL. He coached on Whisenhunt's staff in Arizona.
“John is a coach that has worked for me before both with wide receivers and quarterbacks and I felt good about the job he did for me, but what I am really excited about was seeing him grow in this profession and seeing the job he did with the young quarterback in Tampa,” Whisenhunt said. “That position is so important for us, it is nice to have a coach with his track record and had success working with a young quarterback, because that position is so critical.”
Patullo, who will help Shawn Jefferson with the wide receivers, has coached with the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills previously.
With these hires, plus the holdovers from Mike Munchak's staff, the naming of Ray Horton as defensive coordinator and Jason Michael as offensive coordinator, plus the hires of linebackers coach Lou Spanos and defensive backs coach Louis Cioffi, that leaves only the defensive line coach spot and the offensive line coach spot to be filled.
