Vince Young said Wednesday he didn't know where reports of missing meetings before the Pittsburgh Steelers game came from.
TitanInsider was one of the media outlets that reported that Young was excused from a Wednesday meeting to attend a breakfast with Steve McNair's sons, but arrived back at the practice facility later than he was supposed to. He then missed a Friday morning meeting as well, leading up to that game - one in which he was pulled from the starting lineup after the third quarter.
“I don't even read all the stuff that's going on, so I couldn't even answer those types of questions, because I don't even know what's going on,” Young said. “I don't really know where all this is coming from, so I don't really want to answer that. I just want to continue to keep preparing myself. It seems like every time comes up,it's an issue with Vince. I don't understand that. Like I said, I'm just out here working hard and preparing myself to play right now.”
Asked if he missed meetings that week, Young said, “You gotta take it up with Fish [Jeff Fisher]. Please don't ask me. Please take it up with Fish. Don't ask me at all.”
Young was then asked if he thought the missed meetings led to his benching, which came after his third turnover of the eventual 19-11 loss.
“I'm not gonna agree with you. You can go over and ask Coach Fish that answer. He's coming up next,” Young said.
Young said he felt his preparation that week was sufficient, even though the results were not.
“I feel like I was prepared. I just had some turnovers. Everybody throws some interceptions. Just because it's me, I guess I wasn't prepared. That's what they're saying,” Young said. “At the same time, everybody has bad games. You're not going to have a perfect game. That's pretty much it. That's in the past. I've moved on from that. We did a great job against the Giants, now we can prepare for another great team coming in here on Sunday.”
Young said he doesn't believe that the media has it out for him.
“No, I wouldn't say that. I wouldn't say that at all. Every time, it's always something about Vince. It's Vince, Vince, Vince, Vince, Vince,” he said.
He said he understands that his role as a starting NFL quarterback is going to be scrutinized and that he is fine in his relationship with the media.
“I understand that. It's all good. I don't really feed into it. I don't even read that stuff. Half the time, I don't even know what's going on.” Young said. “I'm great with the media. Y'all are beautiful.”
