The Tennessee Titans continue to add to their roster in the early portion of free agency, agreeing to a deal with running back Shonn Greene, formerly of the New York Jets and with Detroit Lions defensive tackle Sammie Lee Hill.
Greene fills the Titans needed role for a running back who can spell starter Chris Johnson and also get the tough yards in red zone, short-yardage and four-minute offense situations.
The deal is worth a reported $10 million over three years. Greene essentially fills the backup spot held by Javon Ringer over the past couple of seasons and also puts third-year pro Jamie Harper in a situation of needing a strong training camp and preseason, especially if the Titans hang on to kick retuner Darius Reynaud, who is also a running back.
Greene, in four years with the Jets, had a pair of 1,000-yard rushing seasons and proved very durable.
Hill, 6-3, 329, fills the Titans need for a big defensive tackle and likely means the end of Sen’Derrick Marks’ time in Tennessee.
Hill was part of a defensive line rotation in Detroit that included Ndamakong Suh and Nick Fairley.
Hill’s deal is for $11.4 million over three years with $4 million of that guaranteed.
