Anyone surprised Fisher didn't get an extension?

  • Dan Cotton

  • I am surprised. Sounds like Fisher had better have a good year next year or he's out.

    PapaTitan

  • Count me as surprised too. Fisher will have to produce next season or he's out.

  • Come on, guys. He hasn't earned one, not with a 6-10 record and no playoff wins since '03. It will be up to him to earn it this season.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • I'm with Terry. It would be a horrible decision to extend Fisher right now. If you extend him, then you're telling the entire organization and fanbase that mediocrity will be accepted -- and even rewarded.

I agree but what was Cincinnati thinking with their extension?

Part of me agrees with this and the sentiment that it would send a bad message to the fans and to the organization. But I also tend to have a problem with all the assistants being in the last years of their contracts, cause as Fisher mentioned during the season, it is a distraction that you have to overcome. They were in the last years of their contract last year and we couldn't seem to overcome that, coupled with all the other things that happened. So they'll have to be sold on one-year deals. Other problems associated with this are the "win now mentality." Like trading for an old QB instead of drafting one or signing/trading for a young one for the future. I'm sure Reinfeldt will have more control over draft decisions because of this factor.

The Bengals can be summed up in one word: CHEAP! Like a lot of teams with the lockout perhaps coming, they wanted some sort of continuity in case it lasts several months.

Very valid points. The one-year deals will be a hard sell, but my guess is they'll peddle it as one year or zero years and guys who don't have much leverage (and really only Munchak and Washburn do at this point) may have to accept it.
