  • Terry, will Gage and Brown be back for Miami?

    PapaTitan

  • Terry, could you clarify Fisher's comments about Verner and McCourty in the nickel? Some fans have interpreted his comments as saying that McCourty would return the the starting LCB spot. My understanding would be that Verner would still be the starting LCB, but would act as the third corner in nickel situations since he's more effective than Fuller inside.

    Terry,

Why do you think the Titans went away from the running game in the second half against the Chargers? Didn't Chris Johnson only have like three carries in the third and fourth quarters?loco

  • Terry, any word on what kind of fine Nickey can expect from getting tossed on Sunday?

Gage is back for sure. I think Brown will try to gut it out. It's going to be a tough go for Tony because that knee may give him problems all yaer.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

Cyrus, they love Verner and what he has done and want him on the field. He will play every down either at RCB or in the nickel. The bad thing is that Vinny Fuller is going to lose out in this matter.

If I were going to guess, I'd say about $10,000 since it was inadvertent contact. We'll know for sure later in the week.

  • Terry, any chance of Fuller seeing time at safety in place of Hope?

Let's assume that they won't sign Randy Moss rather than the .0001 percent chance that they do. They'll go back to Gage and continue using Damian Williams more. Nate Washington is the guy who is going to have to step up and be the top receiving threat, IMO. He all but disappeared while Britt was in the lineup but resurfaced Sunday after Kenny went down.

The Chargers, like everybody else, are focusing on CJ especially after Britt went down. I think they should have used CJ more, but remember late in the game, they had to go exclusively three wide and throw to get downfield quickly.

I don't think so. Hope is the quarterback of the secondary, responsible in a lot of ways for lining people up (and calming Cortland down). Fuller is now a nice insurance policy, which I'm sure doesn't make him happy, but it is the best secondary depth they've had in a long time.

  • Terry, what happened to the pass rush Sunday?

    PapaTitan

  • Terry, it looks like Cortland Finnegan is still struggling, while the rookie corners are really impressing the coaches. A couple of questions about this:

    1. Do you think the coaches will have another 3-man competition next summer among Finnegan, Verner, and McCourty for the two starting spots?

    2. Do you think Fisher would entertain the idea of starting Verner and McCourty on the outside and moving Finnegan to the nickel? Finnegan would obviously be the perfect nickel corner b/c he's so quick and tough, but I wonder if Fish would do that to him and if Finnegan would embrace the role. Finnegan hasn't played like a top corner (or maybe even like a legitimate starter) for about two years now.

    Thanks!

The Chargers did a good job blocking up front. Plus, Rivers is a little like Roethlisberger with is ability to hang in and not go down, then getting the ball off at the last second.

Or what happened to defending the screen pass this entire season? Everyone seems to have our number on short dumps.

That's a good question. Fisher isn't usually one to pull a struggling veteran that they have a lot invested in. My guess is Finnegan gets the benefit of the doubt. Verner looks like he will continue to slide inside as the nickel for now, but it's a good suggestion. If Finnegan doesn't get better, then they could open things up, but most of those "competitions" are shams. They know who they want to win the job from the get-go. That's part of the reason McCourty beat out Verner in camp.

For whatever reason, the Titans have never been a good screen team. It was evident on the two-point pass that CJ couldn't catch because it was too wide. I think Vince's throwing motion is a part of the problem on the short throws. No one would ever admit that on the record, but I do believe that his motion affects the short throws much more than the intermediate or deep ones.

No one has said officially yet, but I would tend to think that would be the timetable. Anything longer and they should consider putting him on IR, because there are only 8 games left, barring some playoff games.
