  • Terry, what odds would you put on Fisher returning for 2011 right now?

    titan4life

  • What's the real issue with the Titans defense? Is it Cecil, the players or the scheme?

    PapaTitan

  • I'd say about 50-50 right now. Obviously, he and VY can't co-exist, so much of this may be in Bud's hands as to how this winds up.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • Any update on Britt and Hayes status for Indy?

    Dan Cotton

  • Heard any names on HC candidates to replace Fisher?

Haven't heard on Hayes, but Britt said in the locker room his ankle was OK.

It is both. There are several holes personnel wise, but I do think there are scheme problems as well and that falls back on the coaching.

Do you think Bud has already made his decision or will he wait till after the season to make it?

If Jeff is gone, the key is whether or not Bud has to pay him or another team takes his rights (via trade). If Bud has to pay Jeff $7 mil not to coach, he's not going to pay a boatload of cash to someone to coach. Therefore, someone like Mike Munchak or Gregg Williams or some young unproven guy might be the best bet.

  • Are there any free agents that we can expect to come back? It seems in the past if they don't resign you before your contract is up, you are out. I am most concerned about Ahmard Hall and Tulloch.

Also, I am not impressed with Brett Kern. Are the Titans happy with him or is there a chance they could make a change there.

I think he probably will wait until the season is over. I think Bud really believes it when he said Jeff and VY need to work things out. But when that doesn't happen, then he may look to move one or the other out.

There are several key guys who are free agents that they might want back. Hall and Tulloch will be tough since they are Drew Rosenhaus guys. Jason Babin, Dave Ball are more likely to be re-signed. The problem is the lockout will probably keep a lot of deals from getting done early.

  • Any chance VY has stopped in to see Bud while he's been back in Houston recovering from his thumb injury?

Don't have any proof, but I'd say that possibility certainly exists. It would be smart on VY's part to do that.

  • Do any of the players outside of VY have Bud's ear?

What teams would say might consider trading for Fisher if he became available?

Certainly not like he does. I think it's safe to say he's the only one with a direct pipeline to the owner.

Think a decision could be made as early as next week?

That might be a bit soon. I'm not sure there's an exact timetable for when this plays out. But knowing Jeff, if he believes he's done here, he will want the opportunity to maximize his chances of landing somewhere else.

I think the most obvious choices on the list of potential landing spots for Fisher would be Dallas, Houston and Denver as possible landing spots. That said, only Jerry Jones is probably dumb enough to trade a draft pick for a coach who might get fired anyway.

You can bet Bud doesn't want to see him in Dallas or Houston, although he might be inclined to do so if he could fleece a high draft pick out of a team for Fisher's negotiating rights.

  • I just read that Floyd Reese is a candidate for the 49ers GM spot. Since Singletary has been fired, I wonder if Jeff would be a candidate there were floyd reese to get the job.

Not in a million years. Jeff won the power struggle with Floyd in 2006 and that's the reason Floyd is no longer the Titans GM.

  • Now that the San Fran job has opened up do you see that as an opportunity should Fish leave? Do you think Fish takes a pay cut wherever he winds up? Do any of the teams who may be interested in Fish spend more money than the Titans outside of the obvious Jerry Jones. Such as the Texans, Broncos, or Niners? Would you expect Fish to take any of the current coaching staff with him?

I didn't say the Niners before, but I could certainly see Jeff wanting to go there. He's from California, spent some time as a 49ers assistant. And yes, if he leaves here, some of the staff would probably go with him to wherever he landed.
