Can't blame CJ totally for a lack of the rushing game

  • I noticed more than once where the offensive line had trouble opening up lanes for CJ today.

  • I agree that the o-line needs to play better. I also think we may need some bigger or more effective run blocking guards who can maul people when needed.I,personally would add an extra lineman or a very large T.E ,who is a great run blocker like we had in Crumpler in Short yardage situations Large men and short yardage are always a good combo.

I agree that the line has to do a much better job. In partial defense to them, it is pretty hard for 5 guys to block 7 which seems to be the case a lot. However, it also seems that Chris isn't running as hard to the hole as he did before.

  • I will wait until I see how we play against San Diego before I panic about the run game. New England vastly improved their D-line (btw, why couldn't we do that). We have had some injury issues and I think Velasco probably needs a couple of games to get himself together. I think it is completely unacceptable the O-line wasn't better addressed in the offseason. I understand the Peyton fiasco may have had something to to with that but they still brought in several free agents. I think they need to use Jamie Harper more to get some tough yardage. CJ is more of a finesse back, he's not going to bury his head and grind it out. 1 and 2 yard gains aren't much but five yard losses are killers, that is where CJ has to get better.
