Climber is dead wrong about the QB competition

  • Jake will be the starting QB by mid-season at the latest.

Nashville columnist: Titans QB “competition” overblown | ProFootballTalk

The Titans quarterback situation has been described as a competition, with coach Mike Munchak saying the reps are split evenly between Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker. But describing it as such may be over-selling it, according to columnist David Climer of The Tennesseean.

  • I think he is not too far off. I believe that Matt will start and will continue to start as long as he plays well. And really he played rather well last yr. Had CJ been able to run better and had the WR's hadn't had the amount of drops that they did, I don't think Locker would have played at all last yr.

Here's the kicker though. The first 6 games of the season are brutal. There is a chance that Matt could look less than stellar during those games. If that happens then they may bring Locker in before mid season.....and once they turn it over to Locker, I don't think we'll see Matt much anymore regardless of how Locker plays.

At the end of the day be grateful that we have a couple QB's that are pretty decent right now.....one that's decent but declining and one that's decent and ascending. Contrary to what some believe there is little benefit to rushing Locker into playing right now. The risk of playing him too early far outweighs taking too long to put him in.
