Cook now wants wr franchise money which is 11 mill or so as opposed to 6 mill for a te.So now his 11mill cap number is going to prevent the Titans from signing a guy or 2 in free agency? His career numbers in 4 years: 59 games,131 catches,1717 yards and 8 td.We really want to make this guy the focal point of the offense? Sad part is, he lined up in the slot 56% of his snaps because he CAN'T BLOCK.He is not a complete tight end. I watched 4 years of potential. There are te on the market, who are more complete players, that would cost less.
This team is a long way from being a playoff team, would any other team franchise Cook for $6 mil. I don't think so. It's time we quit over-spending on marginal players. I realize if they let him go it's another hole to fill but he hasn't proven to be a consistent difference maker. Of course I feel the same way about Michael Griffin.
The Titans need to franchise him,and then see if Fisher is willing to give up the #22 pick in the 1st round to get Cookie. Its all about market value.
Why would the Rams give up a 1st when they could draft Eifert or Ertz and save $5 mil.
Exactly! It shows Cookies value on the open market. Why should the Titans overpay. Would Cookie and his agent be able to pull this crap on the Patriots and Bill B.. I think not.
It reminds me of what they did with Bo Scaife. They overpaid him as well. I would be suprised if the Titans could get any better than a 3rd if they were to trade Cook.
I heard this on Moving The Chains (sat radio) on the drive home today. Pat Kirwan (a former GM of the Jets, etc) mentioned the following scenario with another player. He said that teams do it all the time......sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
Tell him: "Look, we want you. We need you. But our finances are X. We believe you are worth Y. Please go talk to some teams on the open market to see the kind of offers that he would get, then come back and tell us what you find. If we can match it we will..."
There are a good number of nice free agent TE's out there. Not all have Cook's potential, but there are several that could be had at a reasonable price and that can pull in 40-50 balls for 500-700 yds.
