Injury report: Hayes won't play vs. Saints after all

  • TerryMc13

A day after defensive end William Hayes ran on the practice field and pronounced himself ready to return to the playing field Thursday night against New Orleans, Coach Jeff Fisher declared him out for the game.

Hayes has not practiced since spraining the MCL in his right knee three weeks ago and has been wearing a protective brace. As early as last week, Hayes had said he would like to get some playing time this week to ready for the regular season, but the Titans will take the prudent tact and withhold him to make sure he is a go by the regular-season opener against the Oakland Raiders.

Others who did not practice included linebacker Rennie Curran (hamstring), guard Leroy Harris (ankle), tackle Mike Otto (knee), defensive tackle Kareem Brown (shoulder), defensive end Jacob Ford (hamstring). Linebacker David Thornton (shoulder) remains on PUP.

Of that group, only Otto was declared out definitively for Thursday's game.
