Verner continues to turn heads

  • DarrenMcFarland

Alterraun Verner certainly isn't playing like a rookie these days. He has the attention of the fans, coaches, media, and more importantly the opponent. Matt Leinart found out about No. 20 on the first pass of 7 on 7 drills, when Verner stepped in front of the receiver for the pick.

When asked about it afterwards, Verner said that he plays with a lot of confidence and always makes sure that he has a short memory. He went on to say that when his number is called he'll be ready. It didn't take long for the young man from UCLA to strike again when he took the ball away from Mike Jones, as the crowd erupted.

"I'm always trying to rip the ball out. I've been trying to do it all camp," Verner said.
He is trying to be more of a student of the game and wants to make more plays and not rely on just his athletic ability. That is why he has leaned on his teammates for advice, because in the end he knows that he has to take care of his own business. And as they say, the rest will follow.

I think people are quickly finding out why this fourth-round selection, who was third-team All American and second in the Pac-10 in interceptions last year, is on a quick path to being a starter and may be on the radar of stardom.

TitanInsider: "Any closer and you'd be in the huddle."

  • Exciting news. I'd love to see Verner start day one if he continues this. If Verner becomes the next Finnegan... our defense will be unbeatable.
