With three preseason games in the books, the Tennessee Titans still haven't decided on who will be their starting cornerback opposite a healthy Cortland Finnegan. Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner both were solid in both run support and in coverage in Saturday night's 15-7 loss to the Carolina Panthers. McCourty had a couple of nice stops, and Verner, who was beaten deep once on an incompletion, more than atoned when he forced a fumble by Panthers receiver Wallace Wright that was picked up by linebacker Stephen Tulloch for the turnover. Also added to the mix is that Finnegan has not been healthy the entire preseason, and Fisher tossed out an interesting proposition in his Sunday press conference. “Both of them are equally effective in run support. I'd say they're dead even as far as that is concerned,” Fisher said. Asked how much run support would play into the decision of who wins the job, Fisher said, “It's the complete package, and who says I can't play them both in the regular season?” Verner and McCourty should get a bigger challenge on Thursday night when the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints come to LP Field for the preseason finale. Surely, Drew Brees will present a bigger challenge to a suddenly stout Titans defense than Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen did Saturday night. As for Finnegan, Fisher said he hasn't ruled anyone out of the Saints game yet, but his progress from a groin injury has been slow, and the Titans might want to get one more look at both McCourty and Verner before making that final decision. As for playing both youngsters in the regular season, does that mean the two are even in the battle to start or a subtle hint that Finnegan might not be ready for the Raiders?
