Titans defensive coordinator says much maligned defensive back has the talent to be the league's best.
TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.
He's got a long way to go to get there.

I almost laughed when I read it. Aside from the missed tackles, missed interceptions, one step too late to the hole; yeah he can become a top safety.
Picking off Mark Sanchez twice is no big feat. I'll give credit for one of them near the goal line. He made a good play on the ball, but Sanchez threw off his back foot.
Second one, was fluttering in the air and if Braylon gets anymore of that ball that's an incompletion. That's a gimmie.
Griffin won't be a top safety, the Titans will always have an excuse why he isn't..
As far as "pure ability" he absolutely has the potential to be a top safety.
1. He has played for some really, really great coaches.....including Schwartz who is a fantastic DC.
2. He has played in the league for 6 yrs.
3. He is 27 yrs old and on the backside of his career.
4. He has played on some really, really good defenses.
5. At times Griffin has been as good as it gets and at times you want to slap him aside the head.
Bottomline: If he hasn't reached "top NFL safety" status by now with what he had to work with then it's not going to happen.
I seems to me Griff is just a natural great athlete that things come easier to him than most.Seems he needs motivated often. It's like gray is saying he could be something special but for some reason he isn't showing it.I would draft a big, young, strong, fast FS in the draft and tell Griff that he is playing for his job EVERY week.POTENTIAL is not going to cut it anymore.
That's just a funny headline. It's not about what you can do, it's about what you DO.
What was it about the 2005 longhorns? All these players with such talent that no one knew how to work hard and they underachieve in the NFL.
My read is that if he plays as a single deep safety, he has the athletic ability to cover both sides of the field.. he certainly doesn't belong at SS..
