Hot coaching board: Sizing up the candidates

How the potential candidates to replace Jeff Fisher stack up.

  • Terry, are these THE candidates, or are you just hypothesizing here?

  • Good list, Terry.

    PapaTitan

  • Munchak has been a loyal player and coach..Adams values that as well as being kept in the loop by his head coach.. I can see it happening.. when will we know Terry

    Centurycycler

  • How about Babin's suggestion?

Some speculation and some known candidates in the mix. No one really knows the Rooney rule candidate, but most of the speculation has centered on Perry Fewell. All the others are legitimate for certain. There could still be another one or two sneak onto the list. By the way, I am told by multiple sources that the report of Nick Saban to the Titans is completely false.

  • hmmmmmm....I like Perry Fewell pretty good, but I like Dolphins asst. head coach/secondary coach Todd Bowles a little more. I hear he is a dark horse candidate. Would be cool with Bowles as DC too, if we went the 3-4 direction (unlikely).

The Titans have too many holes already to think about switching to a 3-4. If they did that, on top of filling all the coaching vacancies and needing a QB, they might make the 08 Lions look good next year.

haha agreed. Wonder who Munchak would look to as DC?

Not sure right now. His entire coaching tenure has been with one team, so not sure who he has crossed paths with. I expect the head coaching hire to be official right after the Super Bowl and then they'll start working on the assistants.

  • This team has just as many holes to fill to be competitive in a 4-3 also. We are the new lions and with washburn gone(the driving force that made our average defense play like pro bowlers) we might as well give 3-4 a shot worked for green bay.

I just think it would require a lot of adjusting. With Tulloch a FA, McRath is probably the only LB suited for a 3-4 (he'd shift inside). They would be lacking the outside rush guys. On the defensive line, Jason Jones could be a 3-4 end. Maybe Sen'Derrick Marks, too, but they wouldn't have a nose tackle and nowhere to really fit guys like Derrick Morgan and Jason Babin.

As you said, if you're going to do that, now is the time, but I still don't look for the switch to happen.

I got 4 out of 5 on the list, if you count Gregg Williams, who they pursued but didn't interview. Mularkey was the only interviewee not on the list of feasible candidates.

  • There is absolutely holes and pieces that won't fit either way I expect babin will pull the rip cord and bail. What to do with morgan would be a huge question and the nose tackle those guys don't grow on trees, all and all I'm just tired of getting killed by tight ends and screens. I'm sure you know the zone blitz is the cure for those headaches, but without the parts were going to be exposed somewhere. Good thing is the draft is full of quality dt's, and decent lb's.
