How close was Adams to pulling the plug?

Was Jeff Fisher saved on Monday in Houston?

  • I guess being 88 years old gives you the ability to not listen to the people you put in high positions with your team and who are involved with the team on a daily basis. It appears that he may have listened a little but the reports are he will side with VY. What GOOD coach would take the job knowing he has no control over his QB and can't make him do anything like study film etc?

This is a situation like no other around the league, because the owner is not on site and not involved in the day-to-day operations of knowing what goes on. That both works to Fisher's advantage and to his detriment in some cases.

  • What good coach wants to come to Tennessee in the first place? It's in a smaller market and one of the least desirable teams to coach. That being said I believe taking a chance on a coordinator has just as high of a probability of being a success. Mike Shannahan won multiple super bowls and how has that hire worked for Washington? When New England hired Bellichek he was nothing but a loser beforehand. It's all a craps shoot. The fact is the Titans are 12-6 with Vince and 2-12 without him the last two seasons. It's pretty easy to see they need him to stay.

Any of the 32 head coaching jobs in the NFL are bound to be attractive for the simple fact there are only 32 of them. The Raiders and Bills keep finding coaches despite the revolving doors there. I do agree that a young up and coming guy is well worth a shot if Fisher goes. Eight of the 12 coaches in the playoffs are first-time head coaches who have been on the job less than five years.

As for Vince, his overall record of 30-17 as a starter is pretty good, but many of those wins came against teams with losing records. Vince's problem are not necessarily in the won-loss record. It's his work ethic, dedication and heart that are all below NFL quarterback standards. For instance, he wasn't well enough to practice most of the week leading up to the Miami game. But when he came in for Collins, he ran around just fine and wasn't even listed on the injury report that week. More than that, after losing the game, here is the starting quarterback opting to stay behind on South Beach to party rather than return to Nashville to get treatment on his ankle and study film after a crushing loss. Do you think Peyton Manning would have partied in Miami after losing to the Dolphins?

Think how good Young might be if he had a decent work ethic and really put in the time necessary like a Tom Brady or Manning does. It's something that Michael Vick says he finally "gets" now that he's back in the league, and look at the difference in his play now than when he was with the Falcons.

And how is that going to motivate Vince to change his ways if he knows he holds all the cards with the owner?
He'll look at this coaching staff or any other and say if you don't like something take it up with the owner.
Everyone makes fun of the Oakland Raiders but this franchise isn't far off. It has just been convienent over the years to use the Raiders as the punching bag for jokes. The Titans have an owner that is just as clueless about things as Al Davis.

  • If Adams cans Fisher to keep Young, you'll be seeing the NFL equivalent of the Lebron James situation in Cleavland. You'll have a prima donna athlete thinking he holds all the cards with his franchise. His work ethic won't improve, it may even get worse. I have no doubt in my mind Young can be a serviceable, if not successful, NFL quarterback. But he needs to return to earth and realize the amount of work that guys like Brady and Manning put into being successful. Michael Vick has learned this and look at what he's doing, even past his prime. Vince will never learn this if Bud enables him by choosing him over his coach of 17 years. He'll have to learn his lesson by being shown the door.

    I'll hang up and listen.
