If Hasselbeck departs Seattle, he might be the Titans' stop-gap

  • Nothing to really base this on, but given that GM Mike Reinfeldt, Ruston Webster and Lake Dawson all came from Seattle, if the Seahawks don't re-sign Hasselbeck, I think it's possible that he lands in Tennessee.

Given some time to throw, he showed Saturday night he can still sling it, even though he was a bit inconsistent and injured this year. I know this: The Titans could do much worse, and a guy like Hasselbeck would probably jump at the chance to throw to a receiver prospect like Kenny Britt.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • Hasselbeck can't stay healthy. I'd rather have Orton or Kolb over him.

I would rather draft someone like the guy from MO. With Fisher being in the last year of his contract, I wonder if he may try and trade for a QB and not draft one to leave for a new coach if he is gone after next year? If he's going to leave, why give a new coach a good young QB to build with. I think if he resigns Kerry it will speak volumes.

I like Gabbert from Missouri too.

Guys, I'm not saying that Hasselbeck is the long-term answer. But if he is available, they might consider him to start for a year or so and mentor a rookie like Gabbert or Locker or whoever might be the long-term answer.

Do you think they would let Hasselbeck walk? I agree he could help for a year or two and he would probably be cheaper then Kerry. I'm not a big Orton fan after the way he was whinning after the game here.

Rumor out there is they wanted to get younger at QB. If Hasselbeck leads some sort of surprise playoff run, they might have to reconsider. But as of right now, he's a free agent.

We could do worse unless he can't stay healthy.

  • Hasselbeck would be a good stop-gap solution for sure. I'd be a little concerned about his recent injury history and his size as he gets older. Gotta wonder how much of a beating he could take at age 36. I still think the best solution is to re-sign Kerry to a 1 year backup deal, sign Alex Smith, and draft a rookie QB on the 2nd or 3rd day.

That's interesting about signing Alex Smith and Kerry and drafting a QB later. The problem with Kerry is how much does he want and also after the first few QB's there isn't much left. I would like to see them sign Hasselbeck and then use their first pick on a QB of the future. I'm just not sure if Jeff is willing to do that in his situation.

I haven't given much thought to Alex Smith. Wonder what Harbaugh thinks of him?

Not sure, but Alex has said he doesn't want to return. (said that off the record to a reporter, according to PFT)
