Kicker/punter Ricky Schmitt, who has been unable to go since the preseason opener, was sent to a specialist for his ailing back.
According to his agent, Sean Arron Radin, Schmitt has had to have cortisone injections in his back and will have to continue doing so for some time because of the injury.
“He went to back doctor, got some cortisone injections, and will have to have a series of them going through the start of the season,” Radin said.
According to Radin, the Schmitt was doing some twisting and stretching exercises as part of his rehab process, but the specialist advised him to stop that.
Schmitt did well in his only preseason game in Seattle, averaging 55 yards per punt, including a 65-yarder. However, he faced an uphill battle in training camp to try and unseat incumbent Brett Kern, who has averaged 47.1 yards on 18 punts with four downed inside the 20.
The Titans might have to reach an injury settlement with Schmitt once roster cuts are made. The first round of cuts are due on Tuesday when the list has to be trimmed to 75.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.
Schmitt is obviously a quick healer as he was punting in pre-practice warmups.
