Mariani will get first shot at returns vs. Saints

  • Coach Jeff Fisher said after Tuesday's practice that rookie receiver Marc Mariani will handle kickoff and punt return duties in the first half with Damian Williams doing so in the second half.

    Last week, Williams started out on return duties, but fumbled and had a shoulder injury in the second quarter and was replaced by Mariani. Though Williams did return to the game at receiver, he gave way to Mariani on returns the rest of the game.

    Bias? Never. I stand behind everything I have typed. But I reserve the right to amend at a later date.

  • Marc Mariani leads all Titans receivers in receiving yards with 90, has the longest reception of the preseason at 37, has an 8.3 punt return average with a long of 13, and has a 27.0 kick return average with a long of 60.

    Damian Williams is sixth on the team in receiving yards with 55, with his longest reception being 15, has a 7.3 punt return average with a long of 12, and has a 25.3 kick return average with a long of 27 and 1 fumble.

    So Williams' longest kick return is Mariani's average... you are right there is no comparison.

    Mariani deserves this chance to start, and for the record I don't know who Howard Kandel is either, I just pulled that quote off the internet cuz I thought it was funny.

  • So if not stats, what are you basing your assertion on? I hadn't looked at the actual numbers yet...but simply based on what I have visually seen, Mariani has better vision of the field and is not as hesitant as Williams when picking a lane.....

    Williams is a USC guy. I'm a USC guy. I pump them all up until they throw it in my face with their on field performance. Or lack there of. You know like LenDale White.
