Munchak inherited many Titans woes

Titans rebuilding situation goes far beyond just this year's struggles.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • Plain and simple the Titans were not ready to play yesterday. That falls directly at Munchak's feet. That's the most humiliating loss that I've ever witnessed at LP Field.

  • Adding to all of that Cj holding out,Britt getting hurt and BUD calling a few days before the start of free agency last year and demanding a pursuit of Manning. This had to have altered the free agency plans that Munch,Ruston, and Reinfeldt had planned for months.

  • I heard you last night on The Game bring up Fisher's leftovers and you expand on it nicely here. Very poor draft choices has really stunted this team. Munchak can't make wine out of water but at least put a competitive product on the field. And Webster gets a lot of credit for drafting talent on offense but He needs to be called out for not properly addressing the defense.

I wonder if this team would have been better off starting Jake last year and starting the rebuilding process then instead of trying to make a playoff run and really suffering from a lack of identity this year.

  • Pretty Simple..
Look At our 1st Rd Picks. These should be the cornerstones of our franchise...

2012: Kendall Wright (Looks OK So Far)
    2011: Jake Locker (We'll See)
    2010: Derrick Morgan
    2009: Kenny Britt
    2008: Chris Johnson
    2007: Michael Griffin
    2006: Vince Young
    2005: Pacman Jones
    2004: Ben Troupe (2nd Rd)
    2003: Andre Woolfolk

I know some of those are going back a ways. But our 1st Rd picks should be the cornerstone of our franchise and excluding CJ, Locker, and Wright; most of ours are the reasons we're falling apart. 1st Rd picks are difference makers. The two best picks have been Roos and CJ...

  • Wasn't it up to Munchak to establish an identity? He hasn't, that's on him. They locked up Michael Griffin, Chris Johnson, Lavelle Hawkins, and Jason McCourty. That's a lot of money put in to average, to below average players. Those were decisions made by this FO and coaching staff, not Fisher's. They could have elected to overhaul this team two years ago if they thought it was so bad, but they didn't. They could have made the decision to move on to Locker last year, but they didn't. Do you think we'd be better now if Locker was in his second year at QB and they made better decisions in free agency? I do. But they kept telling us that we were close, from the offensive line to the defensive line, to the secondary, they showed us with the decisions they made during the past two offseason's that they legimatley believed we were "fine" in a number of areas. A sense of urgency has never been something associated with this organization, and now they are paying for it. It is true that at times, they paid for it in the past, however now, we have a promoted O Line coach as our Head Coach, and he isn't able to cover up the teams bad decisions like Fisher did in his last few years. We might have lost several games under Fisher, but being absolutely demolished with regularity was something we never witnessed with Fisher. It was the right decision to move on from Fisher, but it was not the right decision to hire the next HC "in house". I'm sure Munchak is a great guy, but he is not a great coach. There should be no blame fall on anyone but he and his staff, and this FO. They made the decisions, they get the credit for the loses those decions bring.

  • Bud insisting on going after Manning cost the Titans several free agents that I believe they could have signed and would have helped this team. 6 fumbles in totally unacceptable though.

  • Reinfeldt is the one to blame for this mess. Losing Finnegan's spunk on defense is turning out to be a huge loss. Maybe the Titans should have paid Cortland and not have extending McCourty.

    See Mario Williams.

  • Reinfelt was the GM, but Fisher was calling the shots on a lot of those draft picks, save for maybe Vince, the rumor has always been he wanted Leinhert, but he is as unemployed as Vince. So Fish shares responsibility for a lot of this mess and then left town without cleaning it up.

  • Sunday was embarasssing for everyone and I felt Munch should have benched a few guys for a series, but I feel that Munch,Ruston,Reinfeldt need at least 1 more draft to be evaluated fairly.NO way Locker was ready to start day 1. Hass has been a great mentor. Our offense has the weapons if used correctly. We drafted Wright ,but this is a passing league and he does lead the Titans in receptions. If Locker comes back and impresses, that becomes 2 good 1st round picks.I am dissapointed in Gray and question Palmer on a weekly basis and I understand the frustration, but changing everything every 3 years is not the recipe for success goung forward. Look at the Cleveland Browns since they came back. Changes just to make changes without improvement.

  • This wasn't expected. Munch came out to the media last yr and said that we needed to revamp the interior o-line. We had one of the worst DE pass rushing corps in the league last yr. NONE of this was fixed....NONE OF IT. As a matter of fact they even let their best defender go to FA.

Hutch and Wimbley are nice additions, but they are like putting small band-aids on a couple of gun shot wounds. This team could be much further along than it is now......the last off-season was horribly mismanaged. If the front office doesn't do something about it this coming off-season, there is going to be a lot of coaches looking for new jobs. They will end up falling on the sword for someone else's poor decisions.
