I still think that if camp starts on time that the veteran QB could be a backup type from the outset. The Titans are in rebuilding mode and the bigger names on the list probably won't come here to start six games and hand the reins over to Locker. Why not start Locker if he has a grasp of the offense and get a Neil O'Donnell/Billy Volek type who knows he will be a backup right from the start.

Why would the veteran QB come here, have to start 6 games and hand the ball over to Locker? I like the Locker pick and hope he turns out to be great, but you can't ask the kid to start come game one this year, considering that the first time that he will have any contact with his coaches or any practice with his teammates will be at best the end of July. Starting him game one with no real viable alternative could be a complete disaster, for the team and Jake Locker himself. Matt Hasselbeck took the Seahawks to the playoffs last year and won a playoff game. I realize he's not the best in the league, but he's capable of winning games. I'm not ready to go ahead and give up the 2011 season before it even starts. I believe that the Seahawks are looking elsewhere. Hasselbeck is going to have to go somewhere, and most every team that needs a Quarterback drafted one ( Minnesota, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Carolina, and Tennessee). Arizona would be the exception, but they'll go after Kolb. So, most all of these veteran Quarterbacks, if they want to start, are going to have to go somewhere with a rookie waiting behind them. That's just the NFL these days. And I think that a 35 year old Matt Hasselback realizes that. I don't think he'll sign more than a 2 year deal wherever he signs. I would be all for going into 2011 with Hasselbeck. Let Jake Locker learn a little this year. Mike Reinfeldt has already said that they do not want to put that much pressure on Jake in his first year, and I don't think they will.

I would be shocked if the Titans front office went into this year with Jake Locker as the only real answer to the Quarterback position. That, in my opinion, is just too much pressure too soon to put on the kid. I think the Front Office will at least attempt to acquire an alternative (competitive) QB, besides Jake Locker. I don't think there is a team out there that is going to guarantee Hasselbeck would have a starting job for two more years. The Seahawks wouldn't even do that. It would be a huge gamble, and potential disaster, if the Titans went with Locker as their only real answer. But, if you think 2011 is going to yield L's either way, then I do understand the philosophy of going with Locker from game one. Every Titans fan wants Locker to be one of the top QB's in the league someday. But there is differing philosophies with how to ultimately achieve and get to that point. I, however do think that it would be possible to significantly improve the defense in one (although shortened) free agency period, offseason, and with a new (imo significantly better) defensive coordinator. Not likely, I know, but possible. That is assuming that Coach Gray can teach linebackers how to cover a tight end. I know I'm probably exhibiting some wishful thinking here, but I'm just a fan.
