I think the bigger thing to watch is Lavelle Hawkins vs Damian Williams for the 4th wide receiver spot. If Hawkins wins the battle, Mariani may be handling kickoffs while Williams is left off the active 45. However if Williams wins it Mariani will probably be left off the 45. Or maybe Hawkins gets left off the active 45.

I'm not sure there is a clear leader right now, but the fumble definitely hurt Williams. I bet Fisher lets them split time returning in the first half against the Saints. That way they can make an apples to apples comparison. I'd also like to see Mariani as the slot receiver for a few plays in the first half. Yeah, he looks really good against the scrubs, but I'd like to see him against the top guys. That being said, I like both of them. Damian Williams reminds me of Brandon Jones, and Mariani looks like a young Brandon Stokley.
