I think he does. No way they can match what Mario Williams will be asking for, so Mathis is a backup plan. It never hurts to put it to another team in the division.

I'd still rather have Mario Williams, because he is a true impact player. Mathis will be decent for a couple of years, but Williams could be a guy who could give you five or six good years. That said, the Titans almost never go after the big impact player. I had heard Mathis' name thrown around a few weeks ago. If they go that route, then they might even sign a second player as a run stopper to go with him since Mathis' true strength is really a pass rusher.

Either one would be a nice upgrade. Good point about Peppers.
