Roster Debate: Quarterbacks

  • Quarterbacks Currently on Roster:
    Vince Young
    Kerry Collins
    Chris Simms
    Rusty Smith

So who makes the team. The Titans, in recent history, have kept 2-3 quarterbacks on the roster each year. So most likely one of these quarterbacks is going to get the axe.

One idea is to try and get Rusty Smith on the practice squad and then we can deal with it next year, but he's playing pretty well and chances are he will be picked up on waivers.

So how do you guys see this one playing out?

  • It would be pretty unlikely for both Collins and Young to go out during the season so I would expect that the team would feel fairly comfortable with Rusty Smith as the third quarterback. I believe the real competition and the reason for Simms arrival was to determine if the team needed to keep Collins on board with his high salary.

All that being said, Simms will inevitably be cut.

On the money with this, Cyrus!

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • With out a doubt Simms will get cut. Young will be the QB with Collins leaving after this year. Smith will play third string all year and then move to the backup role next year.

  • As a Texas-ex, I've always rooted for Chris, but just don't see him sticking. Rusty looks as good as Chris, but with more potential. Chris has been around the league long enough that we know what he brings to the table, barring some unforeseen manifestation of Biblical proportions.
