TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • Anyone who wants to post a question early, feel free to leave it and Darren and I will answer it tomorrow during the chat.

  • Who are a couple of teams that might give VY a look?

    PapaTitan

  • banana Who do you think the Titans will pick first in the upcoming draft? Will they bring Haynesworth back? Will Chuck Cecil be the Def Coordinator next season?

  • I think VY will look around for a situation where he can at least compete for a starting QB job. A place like Arizona or Minnesota might be attractive. Don't rule out his hometown Texans, but he'd have to back up there.

  • Who's the better option in a trade if available? Orton or Kolb?

    JVVol

  • Any thoughts about the time frame in which we'll be informed for sure on Fisher's future?

    owenstg

  • How much do the Titans owe VY?

    PapaTitan

  • Unless they make a deal for a QB like Kolb, they have to draft one in the first round. Luck will be long gone by their pick, but a guy like Jake Locker or Blaine Gabbert might be there for the taking. As for Haynesworth, that's a shot in the dark. The Titans had better worry about keeping Jim Washburn on board first and then go after Albert.
On Cecil, Fisher has been very loyal to him and they are close friends, but Adams might force a move there.

  • I've heard that Tennessee is high on Alex Smith and has been for years. I personally think he could be a good QB, but has been overwhelmed by change and uncertainty. 6 offensive coordinators in 6 years? Anyway, what are the chances TN brings him in?

Orton can certainly be had for less. They have to decide if they will pay the king's ransom for Kolb or wait and find a true potential franchise QB in the draft.

My guess is Fisher will be back, but I can't see them rewarding 6-10 with an extension. The only sticking point is probably the coaching staff, and if all those guys will be back.

Zero. By not paying the $4.25 mil roster bonus in March, it wipes Young's $8.5 mil base salary off the books for 2011.

  • If Jeff Fisher isn't extended, I personally think the chances of the Titans drafting a QB in the first round are slim. Why would he go out and draft a young QB when he would be in win now mode, coaching the last year of his contract.

I haven't heard they are all that high on him. He might be worth a low-risk deal to come in and see what he has. At this point, it's hard to rule much of anything out. Guys like Smith and Leinart are looking for a second chance and the Titans would love to catch lightning in a bottle like the Steelers did with Tommy Maddox a few years ago.

  • Terry,
What are the chances that Fisher pulls an "Any Given Sunday" move and leaves and takes VY with him?

That is the biggest rub in this whole thing. You hit the nail on the head. By the time a rookie QB is ready to win, the current coaching staff may be long gone, and guys like Chris Johnson may not be nearly as good as they were. In 2013 when the QB is hitting his stride, a lot of the guys on the roster now will be on the downside of their careers.

There's no chance of Fisher and VY winding up in the same place. If that was going to happen, both would have stayed in Nashville. VY is gone, and Jeff probably gets to finish out next year and then either get an extension or move on himself.

  • I hope they either give Fisher a 3 year extension now so that he can groom a young QB, or bring in a new staff. If you're gonna let Fisher walk at the end of his current deal, then go ahead and let him go now, that way we can go ahead and start building for the future.

I don't disagree with you except on one thing. I think the message would be very poor if you extend Jeff right now coming off a 6-10 season after 8-8 the year before.

  • Why was VY not informed by the team before it hit the news? Is this standard procedure these days?

  • I think Bisons 11 was joking.

    sarcasm

I want to see Fisher take Collins with him so he can have another six game losing streak elsewhere.

gotcha on that one. It's still early. I didn't catch on.

They told his agent, who I'm sure informed Vince. It was clear that Vince and Jeff were never going talk or have face-to-face meeting again. So telling his agent is the next best thing I guess.

  • For the record, here is a list of QB's I do NOT want:

    Alex Smith
    Kevin Kolb
    Kyle Orton
    Derek Anderson
    Matt Leinart
    Brady Quinn
    Ryan Mallett
    Jake Locker
    KERRY COLLINS
    Jake Delhomme

On the other hand, this list would be acceptable:

    Andrew Luck
    Cam Newton
    Blaine Gabbert
Top QB in 2012 draft if we decide to wait.
