For the record, here is a list of QB's I do NOT want:

Alex Smith Kevin Kolb Kyle Orton Derek Anderson Matt Leinart Brady Quinn Ryan Mallett Jake Locker KERRY COLLINS Jake Delhomme

On the other hand, this list would be acceptable:

Andrew Luck Cam Newton Blaine Gabbert Top QB in 2012 draft if we decide to wait.

Luck is the real prize, but he will be long gone unless the Titans trade up to No. 1 (not likely). I wouldn't touch Newton. I don't want a spread option QB who has to make the difficult transition to the NFL, especially if he has to play as a rookie. Also, there are work ethic and character issues with Newton. Didn't the Titans just get rid of a guy like that?

I would like to see them take Locker personally. I know his performance fell off this year, but he is a hard worker, high character guy who has all the tools. I hear he's a coachable version of Jay Cutler.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • I suppose there's always the chance that they bring in a vet like McNabb and also draft a young QB. My guess is though, that either way, Kerry Collins will be back with the Titans in a backup capacity.

I think you're right, and given that there could be long lockout, it only enhances the possibility of a guy like Collins or Simms who knows the system being back here, because they won't be able to get whoever they draft, sign or trade for up to speed during OTAs if they're wiped out by labor strife.

The thing about Cam, though, is that he can run like VY and Tebow, but he doesn't have a messed up delivery. Cam can actually throw the ball, which makes me think he could be like Daunte Culpepper in his prime. I'll admit that drafting him comes with risks (like any QB).

I'm not sold on Locker. He had a big letdown season, and then in the Holiday Bowl vs. Nebraska, he went 5-16 for 56 yards and 0 TDs. thumbdown

I think Luck is going to be amazing, but so does everyone else. If he stays in school, then we should just let Kerry start every game next year, go 3-13, and then draft him.

If they go 3-13 next year, then another coach is drafting Luck in 2012. The truth of the matter is this thing is a real mess right now, and cutting VY may have solved one problem, but it created another one in that no one knows who is going to quarterback this team next season.
