First coaching vacancy could be getting close to being filled

  • Good stuff, Darren. Is there a leader in the clubhouse for the DC position?

  • Are you guys gonna do another tipsheet on candidates for RB coach other than Andrus? I know you said there are a number of names involved. Is Gene Huey a candidate by chance?

Look for something on that soon, owenstg.

  • Also, it's too bad that Bob Slowik is a long shot. I'd take him any day over Ted Roof and Kraig Paulson. Out of all of the names, I still like Eric Mangini and Clancy Pendergast.

Thank you. I'm not sure if there is a true leader in the clubhouse but it seems evident that it may come from the college ranks, and my guess that announcement won't come till after signing day. Which is exactly what Norm Chow did at USC before taking the OC with the Titans.

I still don't buy that Fisher would be willing to change his entire defensive philosophy going into a lame duck season by hiring Mangini. And if he was going with Mangini why hasn't he pulled the trigger yet? Mangini isn't doing anything but losing weight these days.

Yeah, well Fisher won't be changing to a 3-4 regardless. Mangini has some experience as an assistant in a 4-3. But anyway, I agree that it's looking more likely that Fish will go to the college ranks to fill the position. I think he basically wants someone to plug in there to run his system (GW, Schwartz, Cecil, while all put their touch on the defense and had somewhat differing philosophies, all basically ran Fisher's system). I'll support and root for whoever they choose, I just hope that it gets resolved sooner rather than later. Btw, when is "signing day"?

    Signing day is next Wednesday.

It's Wednesday, and you can bet if the hire comes from the college ranks, it won't come until after the recruiting hay is in the barn. Anyone remember all the denials that came from Norm Chow and the Titans regarding his hire, because they were trying to protect the USC recruiting class that year. Once signing day passed, Chow jumped to the Titans.

  • Good point. That's likely why its taking so long and we're not hearing about any interviews or anything.

  • What is the appeal of getting someone from college?

There's good and bad, I guess. They've had guys from the college ranks before and the results have been mixed. I definitely think they can use some fresh ideas and perspective, no matter where the hire comes from.

Tick tock tick tock.......time has already worked against Fisher on hiring someone from the NFL. A lot of good coaches have been hired around the league in the last couple of weeks. I think the pool is pretty thin, so the college ranks may be more suitable.
