Terry or Darren - Thoughts on the following 2nd-7th rd possibles

  • As an initial matter, the needs I have for the Titans are QB, DT, DE, OLB, S, ILB. What do you guys think of the chances the Titans take any of the following guys in the rounds beyond the 1st (note: these are in no particular order):

    (1) Martez Wilson - OLB - Illinois - 6'4 250lbs
    (2) Quan Sturdivant - ILB - UNC - 6'1 241lbs
    (3) Danny Watkins - OG - Baylor - 6'4 315lbs
    (4) Mike Berry - OG - Auburn - 6'3 317lbs
    (5) DeAndre McDaniel - Safety - Clemson - 6'1 217lbs
    (6) Robert Sands - Safety - WVU - 6'4 217lbs (If we put 5-10lbs on this guy, we could move him to OLB)
    (7) Josh Bynes - ILB - Auburn - 6'2 239lbs
    (8) Kelvin Sheppard - ILB - LSU - 6'2 250lbs
    (9) Casey Matthews - ILB - Oregon - 6'1 240lbs
    (10) Greg Jones - ILB - Michigan State - 6'0 248lbs
    (11) Bruce Carter - OLB - UNC - 6'2 240
    (12) Ahmad Black - Safety - Florida - 5'10 184lbs
    (13) Stephen Paea - DT - Oregon State - 6'1 303lbs
    (14) Marvin Austin - DT - UNC - 6'1 309lbs
    (15) Jurrell Casey - DT - USC - 6'0 300lbs

IMO, the dream scenario is to go DT/DE with 8th overall, then use the 2nd with other picks (or players if this lockout lifting actually, you know, lifts the lockout) to move back into the 1st and address the QB situation with a guy they like. I obviously, from above, see glaring needs at Linebacker, Safety, and defensive line, with some need to restock the interior offensive line with new guys.

Overall, I just wante to see if you guys had any information as to who above (or even guys not mentioned) that the Titans might be/are interested in to pick in the later rounds of the draft.

Thanks a bunch for all that you do for us.

  • Carter, Matthews and McDaniel were all in my mock draft. I think some of these guys could help the Titans in the mid to late rounds.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • I am definitely interested in Sands, I was a huge fan of his when he was at WVU.

  • I am now hearing we are taking Locker at 8. Honestly, if the staff thinks he is that good for what we want him to do, then I think it s a good pick. We pick up a veteran, have Locker learn, and then we get this party rolling.cheers

If we do get Locker, then I am a happy Titan.

Reinfeldt said they would be looking to address DL and LB on Friday with pick No. 39 and pick No. 77. Da'Quan Bowers still on the board after 1st round completion. His knee must really be BAD after all!

  • The interior offensive line needs to be replaced, not restocked. The interior defensive line is in dire need of a player as well.

    Yoshimitsu

  • If you watched this team you would of known injury slowed down the dt's, were actually decent there but were losing a lot of de's or they just don't fit new system. As for the oline if harris and amano switch back that's the same line that manhandled the ravens and ngata.

    sgtfoley

  • The Titans defensive tackles are undersized and injury prone. Tony Brown is most likely done. Who replaces him? Haye? Marks? Haye isn't what the Titans wanted him to be and Marks is as weak as a 10 year old girl. And both don't have the size of a true defensive tackle. It's a weakness that I guarantee the Titans will address in the draft/free agency. I honestly can't believe that you thought things were okay last season.

And they have tried to coach bad/mediocre players up on the offensive line, which hasn't worked. Amano is the true weak link of that line. Replacing him would be the best plan of action. He's shown to be poor at guard and center. Moving Harris to center isn't going to magically fix the line. Anyone that thinks otherwise has never truly watched the guy play.

But I guess I didn't watch the Titans last year LOL.

    Yoshimitsu

  • I think second round we need to go Austin or Paea. That would start the draft about as good as they could start.

  • First of when the de's are playing a wide 9 tech the dt's have to cover more space and creates more running lanes. Brown is probably done but marks has the ability to hold up. My point was who are the de's for this team when the games start? Babin is gone and has proven that he won't work in another system, ball and ford are small and may be gone too. As for harris and amano I'm sure you weren't crying about how bad they were in the 2009 season. Any line that holds of ngata is doing good. But like I've been posting for months austin or paea would be perfect at 39.
