The first-ever TitanInsider Monday Night chat

  • Darren and I will hold our first chat in this message board forum from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday night from the pressbox at LP Field. Feel free to submit your questions in this thread throughout the day, and Darren and I will be happy to answer them.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • Also, this will be your place for the MNF "Inactives" for both teams.
You'll see it first on TitanInsider.

  • How much will salary come into play when the Titans decide between Collins or Simms?

    Kevin Ryan

  • How many receivers do you think the team will end up keeping on the 53?

    Dan Cotton

  • With the first round of cuts just a week away, who are some of the players that need to prove themselves tonight?

    MusicCityMike

  • Set the scene for me guys. What kind of crowd are you expecting for the first preseason game? Any tidbits from pregame warm ups will be much appreciated too.

    MusicCityMike

  • What are the odds that we pick up a defensive end and/or linebacker when other teams start trimming their rosters? Any veterans that might be falling out of favor with their teams that could help us?

Right now, there are plenty of good seats available. It's 2 hours before game time andt he stadium is pretty much empty. I have not yet seen Jacob Ford in pregame warm-ups. Titans have gone inside for a bit. Cardinals are still throwing passes and running routes. Eventually, it should be a good crowd, but I wouldn't expect it full for preseason football even though technically it's a sellout

  • Houston Oilers, I'm sure they will scour the waiver wire. Linebacker is an area they will look at. They'll be OK at DE once Hayes and Morgan are healthy. In fact, they are loving what Jason Babin has done early on. I think RB is an area they will look to beef up, unless Blount or Gado steps up big time.

  • I don't think Kevin that will come into the equation, especially in an uncapped year. Barring something really crazy happening, I think this is the safest bet of all. Kerry will be the #2.

Thanks for the quick reply! With CJ and Ringer I wasn't focused on RB #3.

Just glancing through the roster, I have earmarked a few that might be goners early. Here are eight names I came up with: OL Nick Howell, OL Nevin McCaskill, TE Steve Phaler, FB Jed Collins, K Ricky Schmitt, LB Patrick Trahan, CB Pete Ittersagen, RB Alvin Pearman.

Good question Dan. I'm thinking the magic number will be 6.
Washington, Britt, Gage, Hawk, D. Williams, and Mariani.

No problem. Keep in mind that that third RB always has to have special teams duties in order to be active and maybe even be part of the team. So look to see how Blount and/or Gado do in whatever special teams work they're given as well as how that look carrying the football.

  • Terry,

If I'm reading between the lines in your replies, so you think the No. 3 back will be someone who isn't on the roster right now?

Could be. I'm not saying it won't be Blount. In fact, I think they'd like it to be him. But he has to show them enough. He has the size and the physicality, but from what I've seen thus far, I want to see him hit the hole quicker. Of course, in fairness to him, he's running behind a line where 4/5ths of it will be on the street in two weeks, too.

Just watching Jay Feely (Ariz) and Bironas do some kicking.
Feely just connected on a 60 yarder......it might have been good from 65.
Amato and Jed Collins are currently working on the long snapping duties.

Obviously, the cornerback situation merits watching with Verner and McCourty starting tonight. Also, see if Mouton bounces back and they want a long look at Tye Hill once he gets out there.

The return game with Williams and Mariani should be interesting, and I want to see how Colin Allred holds up, because he's likely the guy until McRath returns, unless Thornton makes it back in time.

Should be fun to see how the DEs Babin, Brock and Ball do. Those three guys could be competing for two spots.

Not to be out done, Bironas just nailed a 61 yarder but the 64 yard attempt was short. In fact, it bounced once and went right over the cross bar.

Interesting that Feeley's kick was to the north end zone and Bironas' tries were to the south end zone.

  • Still no sign of Jacob Ford warming up? You'd think if he was gonna play he'd have to warm up longer right?

    Blaize Pennington

  • I appreciate all of the answers. Keep giving us your observations prior to kickoff for those who cannot be at the game tonight. Thanks again.

  • Any feel for how long Ariz. will play guys like Fitzgerald? Would certainly be a great test for the young corners.

Not yet, another media member rumored that he was a scratch, and that might very well be, because I haven't seen him at all, and I got here around 4:50.
