Thoughts after the Bears game

  • 1)It's always good to get a win when you get outgained almost two-to-one.
2)Damian Williams took a step back last night.
3)The Bears offensive line gave Cutler way to much time early.
    4)Hope Mariani's ankle sprain isn't to serious.
5)Hasselbeck was okay, but needs to be better against Jacksonville.

  • Damian Williams is not ready to be a #2 WR, period. He was terrible last night. We need Kenny back healthy if this passing game is going anywhere. Although right now, Chris Palmer's offense looks a lot like Les Steckel's offense, boring and vanilla.

Our D-line without Morgan and Jason Jones got ran over. Not a good sign, because those two are injury prone. This Smith guy looks out of shape. William Hayes and Jevon Haye are statues.

But to insert a positive. I really like Tommie Campbell and Jamie Harper.

Great point about the d-line without Jones and Morgan. Couldn't agree more about Campbell and Harper.

  • Having the d line healthy will also help Ayers be more effective and hopefully make a more disruptive force out of the linebacker core.

  • I agree about Campbell and Harper. They help offset the Ryan Mouton injury and the LeGarrette Blount fiasco.

I would hold my "vanilla offense" complaints until the regular season starts and we get Britt and CJ back. That will help things a lot. There's only so much you can run when your top receivers are Nate Washington and Damian Williams, and your top running back is a rookie 4th rounder. I think our offense will be all right.

  • Damian had too many mental lapses. Remember Britt having those? Damian will be ok he's just gotta get his head straight. Not alot of running room early. The Bears were moving our Oline off the line of scrimmage. Didn't like seeing that. They got pressure when they wanted. Our Dline looked bad without Jones and Morgan. They have played well the first 2 games. We will see about that later. Harper reminds me a little of EG. Big guy, good vision, seeks contact, and finishes runs. He's not real quick or fast, but he's got some ability. Better change of pace guy than Lenwhale ever was. He'll put his head down and carry a guy a few yards before going down.

Don't get to down on the offense yet wait to see what we actually do in a real game week 1 against Jax. Watching the dink and dunk stuff against the Bears reminded me a little of Chow's offense. Which can be effective with an accurate QB. Hasselbeck would've done much better in that offense than anyone we had on the roster that ran it. Our offense has some real talent. Cook is going to be a weapon just hope we use him enough he's a guy that needs touches. Nate finally showed up against the Bears. Best game for his as a Titan I think.

I like our RB situation with Harper and Ringer. Only going to get better with CJ in camp. Need some touches for all of these guys. Really think we could see Harper as a goalline guy. Could see 3 RB's used regularly in this offense.

Good to see Griffin flying around making plays again like the beginning of last year. Hope showed up a little, but always seems to be a half step late (as usual). Be interesting to see if he holds onto his starting job. Or if we could see him as an in the box safety with Babineaux coming in on passing situations. Could see a lot of defenders moving around with Finny coming into the slot.

Hope you're right about Williams. I do remember Britt having those.

I agree with you about our RB situation and Griffin. Griffin has a chance to breakout this year in Gray's scheme.

  • Ya know what irks me. We had a guy like Blount... undrafted guy that flashed big time ability and we cut him. Now we've got a guy like Harper... Same type of player but we invested a draft pick. We could've had Blount and saved that Harper pick on something else.

Not saying I don't like Harper, but we had a steal in Blount and let him walk away. Harper looks to be a good back, just saying we could have had Blount for peanuts and could've drafted someone defensively this year instead of Harper.

Agreed. Maybe a DE or a LB. Lots of options, really.
