Tipsheet: QB Titans may have eye on

Veteran quarterback could hold down the fort until Tennessee deems draft pick is ready.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

I haven't really thought about him. What kind of stats does he have. Do you think he really is a short term fix?

  • That's a nice job in finding the connection between Loggains and Jackson, but I don't hold Jackson in very high regard. My personal preference would be to sign Alex Smith to be our starter, find another veteran to be his backup, and then draft a QB next year when there are better prospects to choose from.

  • His numbers are a little inconsistent. There was one year where he played about 2/3 of a season and the stats were pretty good. Nine TD passes to just two picks. Hasn't really done much the last couple of years sitting behind Favre, of course.

It now sounds like the 49ers may try and keep Alex Smith... that is, unless they're the team that trades for Carson Palmer, as has been rumored.

  • Here's a question I have, and it's probably better for some of the college guys at 247. Besides the obvious choice of Luck, who else should be a good prospect for 2012. Landry Jones of Oklahoma, maybe? I guess Terelle Pryor at Ohio State, but he's overrated IMO.

  • Barkley from USC will probabley get first round consideration also. So that may be next years big three i'm not buying into pryor at all.

Matt Barkley is the other obvious one.

  • Don't sleep on Matt Hasselbeck either as a short term solution. Seattle low-balled him with their last offer and he had a nice performance in the playoffs. His brother says he's going to test free agency. He has obvious Reinfeldt, ruston webster, and law dawson, and even jerry gray connections. He'd be a good mentor for someone like Locker/Gabbert/Ponder if the Titans aren't interesting in bringing Kerry back.

  • I'd be okay with that if it were to happen.

From what I've seen, Barkley will challenge Andrew Luck for the #1 overall spot. I'd expect Luck to be the pick, but Barkley should be very high, as well.

  • Dan Persa from Northwestern is a very good sleeper pick.

  • Kellen Moore should get some looks. I think he's a heck of QB myself.

  • Hasselbeck would be the perfect solution. He doesn't have the arm strength to really spin the ball downfield but he can read defenses and would be a huge asset to a developing quarterback. I could see Nashville being a good fit for him and his family until he's ready to retire as well. And like Owenstg notes, there's connections all over the place in the front office.

The Titans have a solid pass blocking offensive line and can keep Matt upright and healthy.

  • I still think Hasselbeck is a possibility, too, but it sounded as if the Seahawks would at least make an attempt to try and keep him. I would be OK with Hasselbeck in the short term.

Seattle made him an offer and low-balled him. That's why he is going to test the market.

  • It is interesting that Palmer has ties to Hasselbeck's brother Tim, so that might be an avenue for Hasselbeck. I definitely think he is an option for the Titans and have for awhile, if the Seahawks let him test the market.

    I definitely agree with this.

He will be a great project QB IMHO.

  • I'd like to see the Titans go for the other 49er Smith. Troy Smith could be an excellent fit. Mobility, accuracy, and has a way of making the players around him lift their game.

Good days, bad days --- always a Buckeye. Time to begin the assault on the 2013 BCS National Championship

  • 32, you can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Troy Smith has a significant learning disability, much like our last QB.. I don't see it..
