Tipsheet: Veteran QB options on Titans' radar

Could the Titans find their quarterback of the present without having to dip into the trade market?

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

I understand McNabb's work ethic is a question and is Smith that good? What do people around the league think of him. If they do sign a vetern will they use their 1st pick on a qb or will they wait a couple of rounds?

  • Not sure if McNabb has anything left in tank, but I'm intrigued by Smith.

That's a good question. The draft is still a couple of months away. If Gabbert or maybe Locker is there, they might grab them. But some of those guys are falling, and I could also see them filling a hole in the first round somewhere else and trying to get a guy in round two at QB, if someone falls to them. As for McNabb, yes, I've heard the same things but he is still probably better than 90% of what's out there and for a year or two could keep things together better than most of the available of them.

  • I hope they pick up alex smith. I don't think he was given a fair chance to shine. I think he would be a great cheap stop gap QB till we can groom a draft pick.

  • Alex smith with his helmet on always did look like a young kerry collins.

  • If I were Munchak, I would steer away from McNabb, even as a stopgap. The likelihood of him being a cancer if things don't go his way are pretty high. Of that list, I think Alex Smith makes the most sense. However, I'm rooting for the Titans to be terrible next year so that we can draft Andrew Luck in 2012.

  • If Andy Reid and Mike Shanahan can't make McNabb work, we certainly can't. Alex Smith might be better than Kerry but that's not saying much.

  • McNabb doesn't have anything left in the tank. One of his biggest assets at one point were his legs, but he can't even use them anymore.

  • Smith is a hard worker and a smart guy, but his confidence has been shattered. Given the right support and sticking to his strengths(I.e. Bootleg half field reads) he may flourish. If we grab the qb coach from green bay it will really help smith, also would help develop kapernick or locker dependent on who is available in the second round.

    sgtfoley

  • Sounds like Harbaugh could be interested in keeping Alex Smith.

Saw that. If so, scratch another possible candidate off the list. It's not a very strong list of what's available once you take Manning and Vick off the list because you know their clubs will franchise them if they can't work a deal out.

  • That's if the franchise tag is agreed upon in the new cba. I believe it will but it may not be an option in the next agreement.

If it's not, the Colts have to be sweating that one with the thought of Curtis Painter at the controls!

  • i like seneca wallace. he's been a backup his whole career but performed pretty well when needed.

i don't get why people want alex smith. he was given every opportunity to succeed in san francisco. he doesn't belong in the nfl.
