TitanInsider: McCormick 2011 mock

Will the Titans go defense in round one, or will they take a chance and pick a quarterback?

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • Sorry to disappoint you, blue2468, but my contacts are telling me that Fairley/Dalton is more likely the scenario than Locker. Darren's sources, however, may disagree. I'd love them to take Locker.

  • I agree, Fairley and Dalton sounds like a good combo.....I've liked Dalton even before the combine and all the other reports and projections. The kid is a winner with a more than adequate arm to make all the throws. I don't think they take him at 8, so do you guys see a scenario where they take Fairley at 8 then trade up with 39 to get Dalton?

  • All of it looks good but dalton guy is like colt brennan to me, as in just won't translate. If we go defense first we've got to move up to get ponder (who at least knows a form of pro offense) get lucky and still get locker or move on with out a qb because the value doesn't match there ability, the only way I'd pull the trigger on one of the qb's after 39 is if mallett falls into the third.

If there is a run on QBs, they may have to move up, but I don't think they want to have to spend to get back into round one.

  • I understand the apprehension in picking Locker at #8 but I certainly hope they try trading back in that scenario. I like Dalton but he's a total WCO guy. Information gets funny about two weeks before the draft though.

We'll see what happens Thursday. Anything less than Locker or Ponder and I'll be quite disappointed.

  • Peter King's hearing that the Titans could be talking to the Patriots about trading down.

I don't mind the Dalton pick, I just hate the Fairley pick.

I think Dalton has a lot of upside and seems to have a good head on his shoulders/

  • I hope they give Casey Matthews a shot. I think he's worth a late round pick, he could help out on special teams, if nothing else.

    I agree on Casey.

  • Papa as I read that some team is trying to move back up and the Pats are asking a 2 in 2011 and a 1 in 2012.. all for 13 spots at the end of round 1.. more likely taker would be the Raiders...IMO

I like Fairly in the 1st and Kaepernick in the 2nd. This way we don't have to trade some draft picks this year and next. We need all the picks we can get.

  • Carter would be a steal at 77. Some draftniks have him going in the 2nd round.

  • Terry,

Has there been any rumblings from the Titans organization about a Safety from WVU named Robert Sands? The guy is bigger than usual (6'4) for a safety, and has a lot of upside as a possible Weak-side LB if they put 5-8 pounds on him.

  • What about Ponder instead of Dalton. Pro style offence and seems to be pretty grounded (got his masters at FSU).

I've not heard his name but that doesn't mean they haven't done their homework on Sands. Generally a guy that big can't play safety at the NFL level and would have to move to linebacker, although Robert JOhnson is a pretty tall safety.

Honestly, I think they believe Ponder is a pure West Coast offense fit and that's not the style the Chris Palmer runs. I think they believe Locker/Dalton are better suited for their style of offense.
