  • Think the Titans regret not resigning Tulloch now?

    JVVol

  • Why are the Titans afraid of making a change with the offensive line?

Are the Titans confident in Kevin Matthews' progression? Any idea how much the Titans like him?

The o-line coach LOVES him like a son. But seriously, Matthews is making improvements. He is definitely at the back end of the rotation, as evidenced by his being inactive, but he probably has a future at least as a backup lineman and maybe a long snapper. Ken Amato's contract is up after the season, so that role could be Kevin's next year.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

Perhaps. Ruud is a different type of player, and they are playing more Tampa 2 stuff, but Tully was good at meetign the ball carrier in the hole and winning at the point of attack.

He's still really good at doing that.

Cohesiveness and afraid to weaken the pass protection.

  • So they would rather have the running game suffer instead?

    PapaTitan

  • I'm beginning to think Palmer's scheme is not the best fit for the Titans. Do you agree/disagree?

I think they are worried that if they made a change that it could increase the number of times Hasselbeck gets hit and they don't want to lose him as long as they are in contention for the division. I think they believe that the running game will eventually come around and are willing to keep working in that direction until it does.

Working behind Suh and Fairley only makes Tully look that much better, IMO.

  • Just something for people to think about. I've been reading ProFootball Focus and Football Outsiders' assessment of the Titans running game and both think the offensive line has been run blocking adequately, and cast the majority of the blame on CJ either missing holes or not hitting them with confidence, burst, and power. I heard Justin Hartwig on the radio this morning on 104.5 the zone and he basically said that the holes in the run game are there, CJ is just not hitting them. Munchak isn't going to be able to continue to protect CJ to the media much longer.

I think the scheme is OK. Remember, this team wasn't expected to be very good. There were a lot of things, including the QB position and the CJ thing that were in flux all through camp. And when the team started 3-1, it may have been a bit of fool's gold, especially with the offense lighting it up. Most of that could be attributed to Britt's production. Now that the Titans are coming back to earth, you are starting to see some of the struggles involved in implementing a new coaching staff, a new system with a new QB. There are many moving parts that have to continue to be fine tuned.

it is interesting to see where this is going to lead. For the record, I believe Hartwig was on 102.5 with Darren and Brad. At least he was when I was dropping my son off at school.

  • if the right receiver was there in the first or 2nd round of the draft, do you think its possible that TN could take a receiver? The depth outside of washington is clearly subpar. Or do you get the sense that the Titans like what they have when Brtitt is healthy?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they took a receiver with a high pick. I think Munchak and Reinfeldt's philosophy is different from Fisher's in that the passing game is more valued. Besides, Britt has been injury prone, so another playmaker on the outside is certainly on the wish list either via free agency or the draft.

That helps, but Tully is not one to miss tackles.
