Titans-Panthers Pre-game Chat

Guys, we'll go again at 5:30 p.m. CDT for an hour. If you can't be there then, submit your questions in here and Darren and I will answer them. One admission on the front end: Because it's a preseason road game, we won't actually be in Charlotte. (We're saving our travel budget for when the games count!) But we'll offer up our opinions on any subject Titans that you want to throw out there.

Dan, Fisher said the other day he would try to get all four in, but the reps might be a little thin. If that happens, somebody (Smith?) is probably only going to get one series.

I don't think so. I think there are too many questions at QB for the Panthers to be a true contender.

What will you be paying attention to tonight against the Panthers. I want to see if VY can keep it up and also want who steps forward among the backups in the second half. There could be a roster spot or two decided tonight.

I think there's a chance. 'Dinger likes two-tight end sets and Stevens is really the only true blocking TE they have. I could also see a scenario where Ryan is released and maybe brought back after week one when veterans' salaries are not guaranteed.

I'm looking forward to seeing if the defense will bring the same type of intensity that they showed against the cardinals. I also want to see guys like cook and hawk play tonight. I think they may be a very important part of our success this year.

I agree, Ultra, especially with Cook. They have to have him step up because in all likelihood he's going to be the man at TE in 2011, because Scaife will most likely be allowed to walk away as a free agent.

Will Jacob Ford be ready for week 1? How about William Hayes?

I think both will be ready. Hayes said his goal is to play Thursday night against the Saints. Ford has not been ruled out for tonight, but with a hamstring injury, I'd be shocked if he played. But to answer your question, I think both play in the first game. That said, Washburn is going to have some tough decisions on who to keep up in the opener. My money is on Morgan being inactive in week 1.

I don't think he's shown much, first with the injury and even since he's returned. That said, they are low in numbers at the CB position, so I think he makes it initially by default. It'll be interesting to see if they go searching for an upgrade off the waiver wire once all teams make their final cuts.

If they carry 4 TE's then yes but if they go with 3 then the kid from Montana, Steven Pfahler would be a good PS guy.

I think he probably plays about 12-15 plays tonight. It'll be interested to see how he does and if they try to push him past just a few plays.

I know it's likely Brock will get caught up in a numbers game, but has he even shown anything on defense? He seemed to have pretty decent pressure against scrubs late in the last two games.

Right now, I think he's on the outside looking in. He is sixth in the DE pecking order and, barring a serious injury to one of the others, I don't think he sticks around. I know Hayes, Ford, Morgan, Ball and Babin are all ahead of him currently. And it's possible Bakhtiari is too.

I think I'm in the minority. I'm leaning toward Gado and Blount as a PS guy, so they can see if they can develop him. Plus, Gado has the experience and will be a better ST player.
