Titans to start '12th man' tradition

  • The Tennessee Titans will unveil a “12th man” to honor their fans when the season opens on Sept. 12 against the Oakland Raiders.

A flag pole will be added to the south end zone plaza and a 12th titan flag will be raised just prior to kickoff by a designated honoree at each home game. That person will have ties to Tennessee and may be a celebrity, civic leader, community hero, fan or former Titans player.

The action is similar to the way the Seattle Seahawks have a 12th man ceremony prior to each of their home games. When the Titans played there last season, baseball star Ken Griffey, Jr., raised the 12th man flag.

Man if only we could get back to where we were in the early 2000's when players hated playing in Tennessee because they couldn't think.

  • I'm sorry as much as I like the Titans, I don't like stealing ideas from other teams. Seattle already does this along with Texas A&M, can't they think of another way to honor the fans.

  • I like the idea of the 12th man and the raising of the flag, but at the same time it would be nice if we had our own idea. I would like to see the Titans build a coliseum structure that connect the 2nd levels to each other. On this structure we would hang the names of those in our Titans Hall of Fame. On top of that structure, we could have a celebrity light the flame. In my mind, it reminds me of something in the Olympic ceremony except smaller.
