  • What do you think, Terry? Should there have been a flag on that play? I say no, but that's just me.

  • Couldn't agree more. Morgan barely touched Campbell last week and got penalized.

To answer your question, Kevin, I think there should have been a penalty called, only because the NFL says all the time that it is looking out for player safety especially when it comes to quarterbacks. Which play was more malicious on the part of the defender - the body slam on Vince or the play the week before when Derrick Morgan just happened to grab Jason Campbell below the knee to take him down.
Personally, I wish they'd go back to playing football and not sugar coat everything for the QBs, but they have been super sensitive to that ever since Tom Brady was KO'ed in the season opener a couple of years back.

I don't think Morgan should have been penalized, either. Agree about letting them play. It's tackle football.

Let 'em play football. I don't mind the body slam as long as they let it go for everyone. Not this tap on a helmet ='s 15 yard's. Stuff like this use to happen all the time 15 years ago. But it needs to be equal reguardless.

  • We saw the same type of play last year by a Saints player in the NFC Championship game (I believe). A defensive player hit and "lifted" Favre off his feet before bringing him to the ground. He was consequently flagged with a 15 yard personal foul.

The hit was much more brutal against Young and yet there was no flag. The NFL cannot have double standards with which quarterbacks can be protected. It needs to be consistent. There should have been a penalty on that hit for picking Vince up before slamming him down.

  • Here is Fisher's take on it from Monday:

(on whether a flag should have been throw)

    Yes, there should have.

(on why they didn’t make that call)

You’re going to have to ask the referee. I was wondering the same thing. You say if that happened to (Tom) Brady or that happened to so and so or so and so there would have been seven flags on the field, yes probably. Why wasn’t there one yesterday? I don’t know…maybe it was the heat.

Terry, doesn't that sound like a low number fine wise? Here's video of the play again in question along with Coach Fisher talking about roughing the passer.

The NFL fined Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison $5,000 for slamming Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young to the turf while sacking him during Sunday's game.

  • $5,000 is usually the minimum fine the NFL hands out for malicious hits.

  • My biggest problem is Harrison wasn't alone on the hit... That entire slam was done by three people all three lifting him up and then all three throwing him down. That should have been at least a $5000 fine on all three players. Not to mention they consider that the minimum a malicious hit can be? Seriously, I felt like they wanted to hurt Young or at least knock the wind out of him...
