VY: Expectations for 10 in '10

  • What are your reasonable expectations for Vince Young in 2010? Here are some numbers to start off the debate.
    COMPLETION PCT: 60%
    TDs: 16
    INTs: 9
    YDS: 2,700
    RUSH YDS: 350

If he reached those numbers, I'd think the Titans would be pretty pleased and they'd probably have a fairly successful season.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • How do those numbers compare with his 2009 statistics? I know he didn't start the entire season, but was curious.

  • If (and only if) Young displays the same ability to read coverages and audible advantageous plays, I expect him to do a little better than 16 TDs. I wouldn't be too surprised if he managed 20 TDs through the air with the improved weapons he has around him.

If Chris Johnson proves to be the same player he was last year, he should see plenty of 8 defenders in the box. Both Washington and Britt have done fairly well on deep post routes, and if either can get on top of the safety then we should see Vince air it out a few times.

Additionally, if Cook keeps his momentum he's generated in the last few practices I could see him being a red zone threat who could pull in a reasonable 3 or so TDs in the regular season.

I think Young's accuracy should be up a little based on his comfort with checking down to Johnson and his tight ends and his improved footwork.

I think he still has plenty to learn in terms of where he can fit the ball, the speed/recovery of some defenders and his level of trust with his receivers but this has to be the most comfortable we've ever Vince.

    I'll say 61-62% 20 TDs, 11 INTs, 2,900 Yds and 250 Rush Yds YPA 7.5.

Thanks for making me do the math, Kevin :)

Young's numbers prorated over 16 games (he started 10) would look similar in most respects, but I may have shot a bit low in passing and rushing yards. His 1,879 passing yards prorated equals 3,006 yards passing. His rushing yards from '09 adjusts to 449 yards rushing. TD passes prorates out to 16 and interceptions to 11.

My predictions based on Terry's math:

2,750 yards passing, 57% completion percentage, 15 passing TDs, 12 INTs, 300 rushing yards, 3 rushing TDs 20 sacks and 12 fumbles.

12 fumbles. Wow. But I guess he does have two in two preseason games so far. The sack numbers may be a little high, because that line does a great job protecting the QB. They only allowed 10 sacks total in 2008.

  • I think Vince tops the 3,000 yard passing mark and throws 20+ TD's:

    3,200 yards passing
    21 passing TD's
    12 INT's

    300 yards rushing
    5 rushing TD's

  • Anything near those numbers and a defense that keeps showing up like it has so far, means happy fun times in Titanville.

  • 2500 yds passing
