Weigh in: Are the Texans really a rival for the Titans?

  • This is kind of an offshoot of the thread of the Texans 10 worst moments, but I thought this might be good for debate.
Yes, I know they are in the AFC South and there have been moments where there has been some spice (VY's OT run, Finnegan/Johnson fight, Drew Bennett's TD catch).
But because the Texans have been so mediocre since coming into the league, I can't help but feel like they have more a "little brother" feel to Titans fans, especially in Tennessee. For the folks who have followed this franchise since the Oilers days, I'm sure the rivalry has more flair. I know Texans fans consider the Titans perhaps their biggest rival. But I really believe that most Titans fans feel more of a rivalry with the Colts, who set the standard in the AFC South; the Jags because of the 1999 season, and even the Ravens and Steelers because of past history than they do with the Texans.
Does anyone agree with me on this?

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

The Texans still have the "little brother" complex. The Colts and Jags are ahead of the Texans in the rivalry department.

I tend to agree with you on this.

  • Colts-Titans is biggest to me since my family are all Colts fans and they are always good games.

  • I think the Texans are "a" rival for sure because of all the reasons you mention.

Vanderbilt and Kentucky are rivals for the Tennessee Vols despite the fact UT has owned them for two decades.

  • Even from the perspectove of an old Oiler fan, I think you have it about right. I still have this burning intermal rivalry with Pittsburg, and some of the best games have been against the Steelers. I think we all keep an eye out for how the Texans do, but they have not really been that threatening.

  • Since the Titans came from Houston the Texans fans will consider us their biggest rival. I think our biggest divisional rival is the Colts. The Steelers and Ravens are our next biggest rivals. Titans fans don't feel the same way about the Texans rivalry as the Texans fans feel about it.
