Weigh in: How will the VY vs. Fisher situation play out?

  • With the Vince Young saga on hold because the quarterback is on injured reserve, things will probably wait until the offseason to come to a head. We know that Vince Young has a trump card in Bud Adams, but we also know that you can't have a blowup, complete with Young supposedly not only saying he was running out on Fisher, but apparently also called him an expletive as well.

How do you think this will play itself out?
    1) Both will be back for the final years of their respective contracts in 2011 and somehow make it work.

    2) Keep Fisher and get rid of Young. The head coach has to be in charge of his players.

    3) Keep Young and get rid of Fisher. Young's actions were wrong, but they were out of pent-up frustration. He gives the Titans their best chance to win.

    4) Get rid of both of them. The Titans could use a fresh start both at quarterback and coaching.

TitanInsider: Any closer and you'd be in the huddle.

  • I'm hoping that Fisher will be back and VY gone in 2011. If for some reason Bud says bye to Fisher, who are some names to replace him as HC? Would Williams or Schwartz be on the short list?

  • #2 is what I want but #3 is what I'm afraid will happen. To quote a 3HL caller, Bud Adams has "beer goggles" for VY. I really hope Fisher's tenure means more than Texas pride.

I kinda like this one, but I doubt it will happen.

  • I'm hoping number 4. Fisher, while a good coach, isn't a great coach. In order to win the big ones, your desire for success must be greater than your fear of failure. Fisher's fear of failure has plagued this team for 16 years.

As far as VY goes, I knew this franchise would be set back 10 years when they drafted him. He has done nothing but meet those expectations. This isn't college where Mack can pat him on the butt and wipe away his tears when the other team has just as many athletes as VY's.

The Titans need a fresh start, but if 1 has to go, it needs to be VY.

  • I see Both Fisher and Young back but I don't think it ends in a happy season for the Titans. So #1 with a twist.

  • I think Fisher should be fired. He has destroyed the team this year. His disdain for Young has been placed above the best interests of the team. He has continously leaked stories in the media to undermine his best qb. He has placed way to much pressure on Young to play mistake free football. Young only threw two interceptions the entire season, but was benched for throwing them. In one loss, Fisher had Young pass the ball only four times in the second half, even though Young's passer rating in the game was over 100.

Against Houston, Fisher has Smith throw 31 times, many more passing attempts than Young had in any game, while giving pro bowler Johnson only seven carries. He made no special adjustments for having to start his third string qb resulting in a shutout. On the other hand, his team has been beat twice this season by opponents using third string qbs whose coaches made adjustments to their game plans. Pittsburgh(trick play on opening ko)-Miami(Wildcat offense until they could put the emergency qb in the game)

His coaching record doesn't merit him still being in Tennessee, let alone returning to lead the team to another mediocre season. badidea Just say no to Jeff Fisher.

At this point, Young appears to be damaged goods. But as so much is invested in him, it would be a waste to not see how he responded to competent coaching.
